REDE OFFICES: BROWNE & SHARPE
1964
In the 1960’s New England textile mills were being vacated
and demolished. Closing the mills brought unemployment to skilled
workers and support businesses. The threat to the Rhode Island
community posed by this situation led to Senator Claiborne Pell
proposing a research institute, REDE, for economic development.
